US visa? Apply at any of 5 consular offices

The visa application process for US visas has now become more convenient.

Those applying for US visas can now apply to any of the five consular offices situated in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad regardless of their place of residence in India.
Earlier, applicants had to apply to the consular office under whose jurisdiction their area of residence fell. Now, a person living in Nagpur can apply and be interviewed at any of the consular offices across India. Previously, he/ she could apply only to the Mumbai consulate.
The US Mission has also reorganised its consular districts.
Now, Chattisgarh no longer falls in the Mumbai consulate district and is covered by the Kolkata consulate. Similarly Bihar will now fall in the Delhi embassy’s jurisdiction instead of Kolkata consulate. This reorganisation will have no effect on the visa applications process.
“With these changes, we believe our Consulates General and our Embassy in New Delhi will be even better positioned to support and serve Indian visa applicants, as well as American citizens and businesses throughout India,” said US ambassador to India, Timothy J. Roemer, in a press release.
