Vadodara sculptor Nagji Patel felicitated in city

Nagji Patel, a sculptor from Vadodara, will receive the Aditya Vikram Birla Kala Shikhar Puraskaar, instituted by the Aditya Vikram Birla Group and the Sangit Kala Kendra. The award of Rs 2 lakh is given to artists for excellence in the performing and visual arts.

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan will present the award on Saturday at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Nariman Point.

"It feels good to receive an award. Somebody has taken note of my work and that is encouraging," said Patel, over the phone from Baroda

Patel has already received two national awards, in 1961 and 1976. His work, a marble and stainless steel sculpture, 30 feet high, will be installed at a college in Baroda on November 30. His other works have travelled as far as Chile, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Turkey.
