‘We have been waiting for this day for five years’
“I could not have asked for a better birthday gift. My brother and I were very young when my father was killed. For the past five years, we have been waiting for this day,” said Saili, the 18-year-old daughter of slain Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar, who celebrated her birthday on Thursday.
On hearing the news of gangster Arun Gawli’s conviction in the murder case on Friday, neighbours, party workers, friends and relatives gathered at the Jamsandekar residence at Asalpha in Ghatkopar.
Komal, 43, Jamsandekar’s wife, said, “I know that nothing can bring my husband back. But, with this verdict, I feel that my husband has got justice. I want the accused to get severe punishment so that no one ever dares to barge into the house of an innocent man and murder him in cold blood.”
“I was so shocked with the incident that I could not even see my husband during his final moments. I hope the law enforcers ensure that no other woman meets a similar fate,” said an emotional Komal, a Sena corporator from Chandivli.
Jamsandekar’s friends, too, felt relieved. “We were friends for over four decades. In the past five years, there has not be a single day when we have not prayed for justice,” said Neelkanth Bande, Jamsandekar’s friend.
Asha Shinde, 45, a family friend, said, “The Jamsandekars are like my family. I am glad they have got justice.”
