Woman kills her son, says took step as she couldn’t meet expenses

After the police received a call from a government hospital that a boy has been brought dead, they swung into action.

“Durnale, a native of Gulbarga in Karnataka, had moved to the city after her marriage. Her husband passed away four years ago,” said a police officer.

Durnale was staying with her friend in Cheetah camp area and worked as house help. She earned Rs 3,500-Rs 4,000 a month. “The post- mortem reports revealed the boy had a ligature mark on his neck, indicating he was strangled. Durnale told us Devraj suddenly fell unconscious,” said the officer, adding, “Probe revealed there was no intruder.”

After much grilling, Durnale confessed she strangled Devraj with a dupatta. “She told us Devraj was suffering from epilepsy and used to ask for money to eat junk food. Unable to deal with the expenses, she decided to kill him,” said the officer.
