Last year, popular Australian composer and percussionist Ben Walsh visited India to pay a tribute to yesteryear actor and stuntwoman, Fearless Nadia, as part of the Oz fest. Walsh, known for performing with instruments that are his own creations, is now back in the country for a five-city tour that kicks-off in Mumbai on June 19. He will also be conducting workshops with music schools and underprivileged children during the tour.
Walsh will showcase his latest composition, Loop Zero, on this tour. The piece will mix live music performance with multimedia installations. Expressing his excitement, Walsh says, “Whenever I premiere new work, there is an energy that is hard to replicate. There is a certain amount of tension and excitement that drives me to create some of my best performance memories. I can’t wait to play it for Indian audiences.”
Loop Zero will feature odd instruments that spring from Walsh’s imagination and the performance will comprise high-energy drumming. The show in Mumbai has been arranged by the Australian consulate. “Walsh has forged a special place in the hearts of Indian audiences. His rapport with the local music and musicians has made him a wonderful ambassador for the Australian music industry,” says Steve Waters, Australian consul general in Mumbai.
The show will be held on June 19, at Blue Frog, Lower Parel, from 10 pm onwards. Call 6158 6158 for more details.
