This Friday, singer Gary Lawyer will pay tribute to rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley even as he generates funds for charity. Says Gary, “The concert will raise money for two causes — curative cancer in children and water harvesting in villages. It’s a selection of Time & Talents, an organisation I have previously done a lot of charity events for, as I am convinced of their noble intentions.”

The show will be held at Bandra’s St Andrew’s auditorium on Friday at 8 pm. Adds Gary, “This is not an impersonation but a tribute and celebration of Elvis’s music. We have a repertoire which covers the entire Presley phenomena in all genres including the blues, gospel, folk and of course, rock ‘n’ roll.”

The two-hour long show is one of the four that Gary will perform for the charity. “In the tribute shows we have had so far, we had to drop a lot of songs to fit into the show’s two hour time slot. However, in Pune we had a three-hour gig without an interval as the energy level between the band and the audience was very high. Also, it helped that it was an outdoor show, held in an amphitheatre.”

The plan is to take it as it comes for the Mumbai tribute. “But being in an indoor auditorium, we will have to have an interval,” says Gary. On stage, Gary will be backed Christoper Fonceca on the lead guitar, Leo Mathew and Jason Phillipe on keyboards, Clary Devissor on bass and Adrian D'souza on drums.

On previous occasions, Gary’s has raised funds for the hospice for cancer patients in Bandra, Make-a -Wish Foundation, Restoration of the Holy Name Catherdral in Colaba and The Aids Foundation.
