Composers Sajid-Wajid speak on award-nominations, composing for Dus Ka Dum and newcomers, interviewed by Chesta Wadhwani.

No awards or no nominations for your Partner score.. disappointed?
Sajid: IIFA and Zee have nominated us.
Wajid: People party on our songs even today That's an award.

What drew you to Dus ka Dum?
Sajid: The show required a song which brings out Salman Khan's energy. Salman bhai suggested our name.

Why is most of your work is associated with Salman Khan?
Sajid: He's family Yes, we did get work because of him. But we are also working for other actors.

Can you ever say no to Salman?
Wajid: Never.

Don't you feel after a point, long associations don't help much?
Wajid: Not in our case.

Sajid, are you turning to acting?
Sajid: It's on. I'm playing Salman's friend in a Boney Kapoor production, directed by Prabhu Deva.

When do you intend to do a private album?
Sajid: It'll take a while. We have no plans right now.
Wajid: We've done something with Sony though. It'll be released soon.

What about your children.. will they also get into movie music?
Sajid: It's too early to predict. But my daughter Arshi is musically inclined.
Wajid: My kids don't know about my musical career.. thanks to no award trophies at home (laughs). But I am training them.

Why is it difficult for newcomers to survive?
Sajid: Too many wannabes want to make it big.. too soon. There isn't room for so many.
Wajid: Even established singers and composers find it difficult to sustain in their careers. So newcomers are bound to go through a struggle.

Do you think its right for composers to charge Rs I crore a film?
Sajid: It all depends on the song and the way the movie is being shot.
Wajid: Just one crore? I double the price. Today songs fare better than the movies.

Have you everworked for someone as a favour.. without money?
Sajid: We can't talk about that. These things happen all the time.
Wajid: Maintaining relationships is important.. we do ‘adjust' at times.
