Legends of Hindustani classical music honoured

ITC Sangeet Academy honoured living legends of Hindustani classical music, Pt. Ravi Shankar & Pt Bhimsen Joshi.

ITC Sangeet Research Academy has honoured living legends of Hindustani classical music Pandit Ravi Shankar and Pandit Bhimsen Joshi with prestigious ITC awards on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the Academy.

The awards were presented by ITC Chairman Y.C. Deveshwar last evening to the eminent musicians before a packed audience of music lovers and connoisseurs at the Siri Fort Auditorium here.

The evening featured a rare jugalbandhi of breathtaking kathak recital by Pandit Birju Maharaj to the tabla beats of Ustad Zakir Hussain.

This was the grand finale of the four-day 32nd annual ITC Sangeet Sammelan which started on February 12.

Leading exponents of Hindustani classical music, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar and Srimati Girija Devi, enthralled the music lovers in the past four days.
