While most people were wondering how to make their New Year’s a blast, a different breed was busy working towards making your party a hit. Disco jockeys around the country prepared well, while some went with the flow to bring in the double-digit New Year with a bang.
We asked them what track they brought their New Year in with: most didn’t have anything planned, as the duration of the party decided a lot, and others decided to stick to their favourites.
“You have to go with the flow,” said DJ Amyth, who played at a private party, the night before. “It’s difficult to decide what song in specific can be played, you need to know what the crowd’s mood is like and play accordingly.”
Rewind and remix
Almost all DJs swore by the remixed and original versions of popular Bollywood movie tracks put together in an eclectic mix with hip-hop, electronic and House music.
“The play list is a mix of almost everything, a lot of NRIs come down during this time of the year and they all look forward to Indian music,” said DJ Girish, who performed at a party at Venkies in Pune. “But I will play this track I heard, during Christmas, in Singapore called ‘The New Year anthem’ by Fatman Scoop. It talks about a person’s stages in life, when you make money, get a house, buy a car, pay your loans, stand up on your own two feet and so on; so it’s a nice forward-looking track to kick the year off.”
Hindi tracks by Atif Aslam and recent hits like ‘Prem ki naiya’ from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani were on everyone’s play lists.
Some other popular tracks were ‘4 minutes’ by Madonna and Timbaland and the ever-famous Black Eyed Peas track called ‘I gotta feeling’.
After the countdown, which all places staged at mid-night a minute before the New Year began, most DJs churned out the Hindi filmy tracks, exclusive mixes and House music for the rest of the night.
