The noted Urdu poet Nida Fazli, who died in Mumbai on Monday, was known to his readers for his elegant presentation and exclusive use of colloquial language for ghazals, dohaas and nazms. To him goes the credit of making ghazal a more contemporary form of music, as he avoided use of ornate Persian imagery and compound words, thus simplifying his poetry. Fazli had a long and fruitful association with the later ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh.
