This month, Delhi is literally going to rock. With the major battle of bands and rock competitions slated to happen in the city in January, you can plan to go on a head banging tour.
This rock festival will see performances by 20 rock bands from all across the country and four DJs who would perform and jam together, making it a one of its kind initiative. The two Delhi-based bands taking part in the show include The Urban Earlymen and The Uncertainty Principle. “It’s always great to perform in the city. We will be playing Try, along with covers of Radiohead,” says Roshan, the bassist of The Urban Earlymen.
The two day long rock festival will see the bands perform their originals and some of their new tracks. Another highlight of the festival will be DJ Rudhir, who will belt out popular numbers.
Hard Rock Rising
This battle of bands, which kicked off this month, will end with five finalist bands that will perform across various outlets of the café all around India. The winning band will play at the 2012 Hard Rock Calling Music Festival in London’s Hyde Park. “The main idea of the battle is that the winner will open the festival in London. So, the selected band should know how to cater to a crowd,” says Varun, guitarist of the band Swaratma, one of the finalists of last year’s edition. The entries for the participants opened on January 6 and will close on January 17.
Battle of Bands
Being organised by Avaroha, an event management company, this battle of bands will be conducted across seven cities in the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune. The finale of the event will be held at Bengaluru, where the shortlisted bands will perform. The event is slated to take place in the second week of February.
