MAHAD (RAIGAD): A team of 17 fishermen from Malwan in Sindhudurg district are assisting the personnel from National Disaster Response Force (NRF) executing the search and rescue operation in Mahad.

“An NGO, White Rescuers Force, gave us a few speedboats, suing which we are trying to find as many victims as possible. We covered 350 km to reach this spot (accident site) at 3 am on Thursday and started our operations at 7 am,” said Chotu Chajit, one of the fishermen. “We have members who can operate like scuba divers underwater. We are also using large nets to fish out bodies and vehicles/ debris from the river bed if any.” Another fisherman Ravikiran Turasker said, “The situation is serious, as it not easy to tackle a swollen river. Therefore we have called in a few more members with more nets and equipment on Friday. We will be until all missing persons and vehicles are recovered.”
