LUCKNOW/BAHRAICH: In a shocking incident, a 10-month-old baby died in a government hospital in Bahraich allegedly after he was not given timely treatment by the staff as his parents could not pay the bribe demanded by them.
Taking note of the incident, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has ordered removal of the chief medical superintendent (CMS) OP Pandey. “The state government is committed to provide better health services to the people. Strict action will be taken against insensitive medical officers and doctors,” he said.
Infant Krishna’s father Shivdayal, a daily wage earner, alleged that the child died after the hospital staff delayed administering a crucial injection to him and wasted precious time as they demanded bribe and he was unable to pay it. The victim’s family also alleged that he was finally given “a wrong injection” by the nurse, leading to his death on the morning of August 9 in the district hospital, 130km north of Lucknow.
As the incident sparked outrage, minister of state for health SP Yadav directed the district magistrate of Bahraich to conduct an inquiry and send him the report. DM Abhay visited the hospital and inspected the paediatric ward. He ordered the suspension of all the staff posted in the ward.
