NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday advised his ministers to guard against joining the verbal duel over surgical strikes that were carried out in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) last month.
“It concerns the Indian Army. Let them do the talking,” the PM told his ministerial colleagues after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
A source privy to the meeting said that the Prime Minister told his ministers not to speak out of turn on the issue and said only those authorised should air their views. The Prime Minister, who has himself not yet spoken explicitly on the incident, sent out a message to the BJP leadership, asking it to exercise restraint.
His advice to the BJP brass coincides with a raging debate between the ruling dispensation and the Opposition, the Congress and the AAP in particular, about producing evidence of the strike and responding to Pakistan propaganda that no such incident took place.
