MUMBAI: State Congress president Ashok Chavan on Tuesday said that the government must review the Prevention of Atrocities Act so that it is not misused. “It is time that the BJP government considers seriously the demands made by the Maratha community through their protests. The protest marches have been silent and peaceful. They have reiterated that they want reservation for the community, death penalty for the Kopardi rape accused and a review of the Atrocity Act not a withdrawal, to curb its misuse. The government needs to take swift action.’’ He added that one of the main reasons for the frustration and anger among youngsters was agrarian crisis and government’s repeated refusal to announce a loan waiver, which could have given relief to the farming community.
