Horror in Satara: Sixth body found
PUNE: The police on Friday found the skeletal remains of the sixth woman, allegedly killed by quack Santosh Pol, near his house in Dhom village in Satara on Friday.
PUNE: The police on Friday found the skeletal remains of the sixth woman, allegedly killed by quack Santosh Pol, near his house in Dhom village in Satara on Friday.
This is the second body recovered from his house. The body is believed to be of Vanita Narhari Gaikwad, 45, a resident of Dhom. Vanita and Pol lived in the same lane. Pol had told the police he had thrown away Gaikwad’s body in Dhom dam after the murder. The Satara police undertook a massive search operation assuming the body must have been washed away. Records of all unidentified bodies along the banks of Krishna were checked. However, they did not find any clue.
On Thursday, the Wai police questioned Pol again about Gaikwad, after which he revealed the body was buried near his house. A police team took Pol to his home on Friday.
Skeletal remains of Surekha Kisan Chikane, a resident of Vadiwale village, too, were found near his house on Monday. Pol had dug a pit in August 2008 to bury Gaikwad’s body.
The earlier four bodies were found near his poultry farm.
The police will now conduct a DNA test on the skeletal remains to identify the body. The police had been looking for the body for the past five days.
Police suspect involvement of another woman in Gaikwad’s murder. According to sources, Pol suggested the trio had a quarrel which resulted in Gaikwad’s murder. Gaikwad was hit with a hard object on her head, said police.
Residents of Dhom village said that Pol had told Gaikwad that she had tested positive for HIV. He used to give her medicines and send her for blood tests frequently, said police.
