“We will strengthen our base across UP. We will carry out a membership drive, arrange rallies. But we have dropped the grand alliance plan in UP for the upcoming assembly polls,” JD (U) national secretary general KC Tyagi told HT in Varanasi on Tuesday.

At the same time, he asserted that the JD (U) would work hard to stop the BJP from coming to power in Uttar Pradesh.

“We will contest the seats where the JD(U) is in a good position. We will make all possible efforts to spoil the BJP’s game,” the JD(U) leader said.

He said that the BJP could not be an alternative to the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), adding that the people should look at the JD (U) for the same.
