Taking note of the incident, CM Akhilesh Yadav directed police officers to arrest the accused at the earliest.

Ajay Mohan Sharma, DIG, Agra range, rushed to Mainpuri on Friday night to monitor the case. Sharma said the absconding accused include four policemen, two home guards and three others.

Ghiror police station inspector Braj Veer Singh Yadav said the accused had been identified as sub-inspector Uday Veer Singh, policemen Girish Kumar, Vinay Gautam and Gaurav Kumar from Kosma police outpost. “They were present at the check-point where the labourers were asked to stop,” he said. “Two home guards— Ram Khiladi and Veeresh Kumar — were also present. Brick kiln owners Lalu Verma, Pramod Dubey and Armaan Kauser have also been named in the FIR lodged by Abhilash Kumar, cousin of victim Dileep Yadav,” Singh added.

Sources said a proposal had been forwarded by the district administration for compensation to the families of the victims.

Earlier on Saturday, the postmortem report contradicted police claims that the two labourers died after they jumped into a pond to escape from cops who demanded a bribe and threatened to register a false case against them.

The deaths sparked tension in Kosma village in Mainpuri on Friday as a mob attacked the outpost and assaulted the cops.
