NEW DELHI: Venky Venkatesh will be the new chief executive officer of the Press Trust of India, the country’s premier news agency. The decision to appoint Venky, HT Media Ltd’s chief learning officer, as CEO was taken on Monday by the PTI Board consisting of representatives of leading newspapers.

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Venky began his career with Hindustan Unilever Limited and has held senior leadership positions in sales and marketing during his 35-year career. He was associated with HUL for 26 years and was credited with crafting marketing strategies to launch brands and revitalise existing brand portfolios.

Venky has also worked as business head for HT Media in north and east, a stint during which he worked closely with the editorial and business teams.
