JAIPUR: An engineering aspirant allegedly ended his life in Kota due to study pressure, police said on Wednesday, the seventh student to commit suicide this year in the Rajasthan town known as the coaching capital of the country.

Nirmal Yogi, 17, was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel room on Tuesday after police broke open the door following an alert from the caretaker.

Yogi, hailing from Sawai Madhopur, was taking coaching at one of the private institutes in Kota.

Police said Nirmal Yogi had enrolled at an institute two months ago and was allegedly upset over his performance in monthly tests.

“We did not find any suicide note in his room,” police officer Kaluram Verma said.

Every year, more than 1.5 lakh student from across the country enroll in the 40-odd coaching institutes in Kota to prepare for the highly-competitive entrance examinations for different professional courses.

At least 56 students studying in different institutes in the city have committed suicide in the last five years, most of them attributed to the fear of failure.
