The incident followed an altercation between the victim, Pramod Kumar, his brother Sagar and their nephews, Johny and Chhotu, late Saturday night, as Pramod had objected to his nephews consuming liquor at a birthday party.

The family, an extended joint family, lives in Bupendrapuri locality.

“There was an altercation between the victim and his nephews but the matter was resolved following an intervention from other family members. However, around 9am on Sunday, the accused attacked Pramod and his brother with a pair of scissors,” AK Maurya, superintendent of police (rural), said.

“Pramod sustained a critical injury to his chest in the brawl and died. His brother, Sagar, also sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital. He is stable. We have received a complaint from the victim’s father, Pratap, against four persons,” Maurya said.

The Modi Nagar police said they have registered a case against Johny, his brother Chhotu, their father Madan and another family member under IPC sections of murder, house trespass for assault and causing hurt.

Pratap, Amar Singh and Subhash are three brothers in the joint family. Pratap, the complainant in the case, is the father of Pramod and Sagar, while Amar Singh is the father of Madan and grandfather of Johny and Chhotu. Subhash has a son, Vicky, and a grandson, Daksh, for whom the birthday party was organised.

The incident took place at the residence in Bhupendrapuri, Modi Nagar.

“We were going out for some work when the accused attacked us from behind. They were holding a pair of scissors and attacked my brother and me. After sustaining injuries, I ran to the doctor but my brother sustained critical injuries and died. The attack was led by Madan and his two sons, Johny and Chhotu,” Sagar said.

Pramod’s daughter, Parul, said that Chhotu and Johny had an altercation with her father on Saturday night.

“When they both raised their voice against my father, he slapped one of them and rebuked them. This led to the altercation and they both hurled abuses at him. This created an issue and led to the incident on Sunday,” she said.

The police said that the four accused fled the spot after the incident and teams are trying to trace them.
