Greater Noida buildings collapse LIVE: Three dead; builder and two others arrested

At least a dozen people are feared trapped under the debris of an under-construction building that collapsed in Greater Noida’s Shah Beri village on Tuesday, police said. Three bodies have been recovered by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Chief fire officer Arun Kumar Singh said at least 12 workers were inside the building at the time of the incident. Around 200 personnel including police, administration and National Disaster Response Force with four earth movers and other machines are engaged in search operations.

Greater Noida buildings illegally constructed

Both the buildings were illegally constructed, without getting any sanctions from the Greater Noida authority that has the mandate to give permission to such buildings, the police say.

Search on for ‘missing family’

Police officials say a family shifted into the six-storey building recently. Search operations are on to trace the missing family.

“Locals told that a family moved in the top floor flat of the building. Our teams are tracing the family and labourers, who may have been trapped in the debris,” says BN Singh district magistrate Gautam Budh Nagar district.

Three people arrested

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, reports ANI. The three include the builder and his two associates. “Two builders, one from Ghaziabad and one from Meerut,owned the two buildings. We are trying to arrest another builder hailing from Meerut,” says BN Singh district magistrate Gautam Budh Nagar district.

Deputy CM says more feared trapped

“District administration and NDRF teams are engaged in rescue and search operations. Some people are feared trapped in the rubble. Our thoughts are with the families of those who died in the incident,” Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister KP Maurya tells ANI.
