Almost 40 days after police recovered a burnt body in a pile of garbage in Salarpur Khadar area of Noida, two persons were arrested on Saturday night on the charge of murdering their ‘friend’.
Arun (24) and Nishant (23) were arrested by a police team from Phase-2 near Nagla stand in Noida’s Sector 81 on Saturday evening after an informant tipped the police about their involvement in the burnt-body case from Salarpur Khadar. While Arun is a native of Muradabad, Nishant hails from Salarpur village in Noida.
On the morning of January 8, a police team had found a burnt body in a pile of garbage and plastic waste in an open ground in Salarpur Khadar village of Noida’s Sector 102.
“This case was a challenge for us because the body was burnt to the extent that it was difficult to identify it and the accused had disfigured the face of the victim with bricks and knives. No missing person’s case was reported in any police station of Gautam Budh Nagar or in adjoining districts which matched the description of the recovered body. We used our network of informants to get to the bottom of this case, and were finally tipped off about two people near Nagla stand on Saturday. We nabbed them immediately,” Shawez Khan, Phase-2 station house officer, said.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old man called Ramu, who used to work in a car service shop in Kulesara,Greater Noida, the police said, adding that was friends with Arun and Nishant.
Police said that Arun has been involved in cases of vehicle theft in the past; Nishant has graduated from school, and is unemployed.
The police claim that the duo suspected Ramu of having stolen Nishant’s phone and ₹5,000 in cash.
“Nishant shared his suspicion with Arun, and the duo called Ramu to Salarpur Khadar for drinks. After they all were drunk, they forced Ramu to confess that he had stolen Nishant’s phone and cash. Then they attacked Ramu with knives and bricks, grievously injuring him. They then decided to kill Ramu and later disfigured his face and burnt the body to hide his identity. They also took ₹1,800 cash and the wallet that Ramu had on his person,” Khan said.
Police said they have recovered Ramu’s wallet, and a small diary which helped them in identification of the body.
“The accused have been booked for murder and sent to jail after being produced before a magistrate,” Khan said.
