Noida: U-turns to come up near Sector 14A flyover for easy commute

The two proposed U-turns will provide relief to the thousands of commuters who cross the Noida Gate every day to travel to Greater Noida and vice-versa. The two U-turns, facing each other, will be constructed below the flyover and just ahead of the Sector 14A flyover, when travelling from Delhi, with a distance of 450 metres.

The Noida authority will soon begin constructing two U-turns near the Sector 14A flyover to streamline traffic flow between Delhi and Greater Noida. Officials said that the move will also provide relief to residents of Sector 15A.

Member of Parliament Mahesh Sharma organised a foundation ceremony on Sunday morning. Officials of the Noida authority and former MLA Vimla Batham were also present.

The two proposed U-turns will provide relief to the thousands of commuters who cross the Noida Gate every day to travel to Greater Noida and vice-versa. The two U-turns, facing each other, will be constructed below the flyover and just ahead of the Sector 14A flyover, when travelling from Delhi, with a distance of 450 metres.

The Noida authority has approved the plan for constructing the U-turns and officials believe that the work will be started soon. “The final plan has been approved by the authority and the tendering process will begin soon,” said Ishrat, project engineer, Noida authority.

The U-turns will be seven metres wide and the construction will result in creation of three lanes on both sides of the Link Road. While one U-turn will be near the Sector 14A flyover, the other U-turn will be near Gate No.2 of Sector 15A. “The total length of the each side of the road is 11 metres and the footpath is three metres. Each lane will be three-and-a-half metres wide and the traffic flow for commuters going straight and those who are taking U-turn will be streamlined,” said Ishrat.

After the U-turns are set up, the traffic light outside Sector 15A will be shut to ease the flow of vehicles outside the sector. Till now, vehicles coming from Greater Noida had to use the U-turn at the traffic light near Sector 15A to go to Noida.

“The U-turns are primarily made to help the residents of Sector 15A who faced problems in taking a right turn to move out of their colony towards Delhi and by those coming from Greater Noida and entering Sector 15A. Now, residents won’t have to depend on the turns at traffic signals to enter or exit the colony or the U-turn at Sector 14. Once the new U-turns are in place, commuters will be able to use them and avoid any inconvenience,” Ishrat said.

At present, the Noida traffic police shuts the turns at the traffic lights in the peak hours to ease the flow of traffic. “We used to barricade the traffic light turn near Sector 15A during peak hours as vehicles coming from Delhi, Greater Noida and Sector 15A caused congestion. After the proposed U-turns are in place, the traffic light will be removed,” said Layak Singh, traffic inspector, Noida.

The U-turns will also benefit those coming from Greater Noida as due to barricading of the traffic light, commuters had to travel over two kilometres to reach the next U-turn, which is ahead of the Noida Gate.

“This will ultimately save 20-25 minutes of the commuters and also result in smooth traffic flow,” said Ishrat.
