A group of people has been shooting people arbitrarily in Greater Noida’s Dadri area in the past one month, leaving the police clueless and spreading fear among the villagers.
As many as five persons have been shot and injured in four instances between 8pm and 10pm on the unlit stretches of Dadri over the past 30 days.
The modus operandi of the perpetrators remained the same in all cases — two or three men on motorcycles shoot the persons just once before fleeing the spot.
None of the cases has any robbery or personal enmity angle, claim the police and the victims.
“Prima facie, it appears that this is the handiwork of two or three persons. In the first three cases, the victims were shot in the back while, in the fourth instance, the victim was shot in the waist by two men. The bullet grazed him before hitting another man in the leg. All victims belong to the Muslim community and this could be a case of a targeted attack,” Aashish Shrivastava, superintendent of police (rural), said.
On Thursday, around 9.30 pm, Salman (22), Afsar (28) and Anees (22) were intercepted by two unidentified men on a motorcycle on a stretch outside the cremation ground in Nayi Abadi area of Dadri. Salman is a truck driver and Afsar and Anees are siblings who work as conductors of the vehicle. All three are from Sikandrabad in Bulandshahr district and live in Dadri.
“Salman, Afsar and Anees were returning to the market area from their residence after dinner to pick up the truck. Two men came on a motorcycle and shot Salman in the waist. The bullet grazed him before hitting Afsar and both started bleeding. They were taken to Navin Hospital for immediate medical attention and they are out of danger,” Ram Sen Singh, station house officer, Dadri police station, said.
The victims have not filed a complaint so far.
“My brother has no enmity with anyone and they were not able to see the faces of the two men who were on the motorcycle. There was no reason behind the attack as they were not robbed either. The attackers fled immediately after firing one single shot,” Shahrukh, Salman’s brother, said.
On the night of July 22, 25-year-old Shaukeen was shot and injured in the waist by three men on a motocycle on GT Road near RG Garden in Dadri. The incident took place around 9.30 pm, when Shaukeen was returning home at Razaq Colony in Dadri
On the night of July 12, 50-year-old Fayyaz was shot and injured in Dadri. On July 14, Faizan was shot at.
Police said all four incidents took place between 8pm and 10pm on dark stretches.
“In the first three cases, the victims were not able to see the faces of the attackers as they were shot in the back. One victim realised he was shot only when he started bleeding. All of them saw a motorcycle zooming past after the shooting,” Shrivastava said.
