PV Sindhu has received the highest seeding among Indians for the upcoming World Badminton Championships to be held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow from August 21 to 27.

PV Sindhu, who became a household name in India after clinching the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, is the only Indian to have won two medals at the prestigious annual competition. The Hyderabadi clinched a bronze at the 2013 edition in Guangzhou and repeated the metal next year in Copenhagen.

This time around, the lanky 22-year-old has been seeded No.4 while 2015 World Championships finalist Saina Nehwal has been billed at No.12 in women’s singles.

The last time the World Badminton Championships were held, 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Saina had reached the final, losing to eventual champion Carolina Marin of Spain.

In men’s singles, three Indians – Kidambi Srikanth, Ajay Jayaram and B. Sai Praneeth – have been seeded at No.8, 13 and 15, respectively.

Kidambi Srikanth has been on a roll of late, having reached the finals of three Superseries events, eventually winning two. Sai Praneeth, on the other hand, has won a Superseries and Grand Prix event each in 2017.

South Korean Son Wan Ho and Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi are the men’s and women’s singles top seeds. The seeding list is based on the world rankings of August 3 with 16 seeds in each of the five categories.

Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy are the only Indian pair to have managed a seeding at the Worlds with the duo billed at 15th in mixed doubles.

The tournament is held every year apart from the Olympic year.
