CRPF shines at police games with 24 golds

As the flag came down to signal the end of the All India Police Games at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on Friday, sports minister Ajay Maken said he hoped the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, would go to a sportsman.

As the flag came down to signal the end of the All India Police Games at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on Friday, sports minister Ajay Maken said he hoped the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, would go to a sportsman.

"Who and when the sportsperson would get this award, that is something which the sports ministry does not decide. But I would be happy if some sportsman got the award," he said.

The minister stayed away from suggesting that Sachin Tendulkar, who recently scored his 100th ton, would be the recipient of the award.

The Central Reserve Police Force finished on top with 56 medals (24 gold). The contingent emerged winners in wrestling (freestyle), judo (women) and weightlifting (men & women). Manipur Police, Orissa Police and West Bengal Police contingents finished at the bottom of the pile bagging one bronze medal each.
