“The D-day is May 17 and I am really happy. It’s a beginning of a new life for both of us and I hope everybody’s wishes are with us,” said Vijender, 25, who returned to the Capital on Sunday after winning a bronze in the Arafura Games in Australia.
“It’s a love-cum-arranged marriage. I knew Archana even before people started treating me like a celebrity. She is from a middle-class family and has always been a great support for me,” said Vijender. “I first met her in Delhi through a common friend and it took off from there,” he added.
The marriage will be held in Delhi. “It will be a day affair and on May 18, our families will host a reception in my village in Bhiwani for friends,” the Olympic bronze-medalist told HT.
The ace boxer, however, has no plans for a honeymoon yet. He’ll be preparing for the 2012 Olympics and flying to Cuba for a special training session. “If I’m able to get a visa for Archana, she’ll also accompany me,” he said.
