Top ranked and 2009 silver-medallist, Achanta Sharath Kamal, had to be content with a bronze after being beaten in the semifinal by Singapore's Li Hu, 10-12, 7-11, 13-11, 10-12, 4-11. Hu, however, went on to lose the final against country-mate Zhan Jian.

Sharat also let go of the doubles titles when he and partner Subhajit Saha went down to England's Christopher Doran and Samuel Walker in the semifinal. The English pair later lost the final to Zhan Jian and Yang Zi of Singapore.

In the women's category, Zhang Ho of Canada beat Yu Mengyu of Singapore to win gold. Mouma Das's impressive run in singles came to an end when she lost to Mengyu in the semifinals. Mengyu, with excellent footwork and sharp returns, troubled the Indian throughout the match. Mouma came back well to win two games after losing the first, but finally lost 8-11, 17-15, 11-7, 8-11, 5-11, 4-11.

Eighteen-year-old Manika Batra surprised a few fans by almost making it to the final. But her lack of experience was evident when she conceded a six-point lead in the first game.
