Narang shoots his way to gold

Ace Indian shooter Gagan Narang walked away with the day’s honour, clinching gold in 10m air rifle on the inaugural day of the 3rd Asian Air Gun Championship at the Al Lusail range in Doha on Friday, reports HT Correspondent.

Ace Indian shooter Gagan Narang walked away with the day’s honour, clinching gold in 10m air rifle on the inaugural day of the 3rd Asian Air Gun Championship at the Al Lusail range in Doha on Friday.

The competition for the title was a close, but the world record holder in the event persevered in the the final to edge past other shooter and clinch the top spot with a score of 701 (597+104).

India also won the team gold, with Narang (597), P.T. Ragunath (593) and Sanjeev Rajput (592) aggregating 1782 points to edge Chinese (1779) to second spot. Ragunath also finished fourth in the individual category, followed by Rajput.

Young Navdeep Singh Rathore was lucky to win a quota place in next year’s Youth Olympics Games at Singapore despite missing out on a medal. He sht 585.

India’s third medal — a bronze — on Friday came in the junior rifle event when Chain Singh aggregated 696 (591+105).
