Police games inaugurated by Chidambaram

Home minister P Chidambaram inaugurated the five-day All India Police Games here on Monday. The event will see about 1,500 police sportspersons participating in boxing, gymnastics, judo, wrestling and weightlifting.

Home minister P Chidambaram inaugurated the five-day All India Police Games here on Monday. The event will see about 1,500 police sportspersons participating in boxing, gymnastics, judo, wrestling and weightlifting.

The Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium and Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium host the 31 participating teams. The event is being organised under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Games.

In Monday's showdowns, Anand (CISF) won the gold in 60 kg Greco-Roman while Mandeep (BSF) finished on top in the 60 kg freestyle. Rishipal (BSF) and Yudhvir Singh (Haryana Police) won the 120 kg Greco-Roman and freestyle respectively.
