Santosh Harijan (52 kg) displayed some exceptional skill and technique as he went on to beat Tugstsogt Nyambayar of Mongolia to secure his berth. In the welter weight category, Mandeep Jangra maintained a steady lead against Komiljon Kholioov of Tajikistan to win 21-9.

However, it was disappointing for Shiva Thapa in the bantam weight category as he had to withdraw from the opening round. With Asian Games silver medalist Dinesh Kumar (81kg) getting a bye in the first round and National Games gold medalist Arun Hooda (+91kg) starting from the quarters, a total of nine boxers have made the last-eight stage.
