Young Indian shuttler, PV Sindhu, took a big leap in her career, making it to her maiden Grand Prix Gold event final by outplaying Thailand's Sapsiree Taerattanachai on Saturday.

The No 2 seed scripted a 21-12, 21-14 win in the semifinal of the Syed Modi Memorial Grand Prix Badminton Championship to set up a summit clash with Lindaweni Fanetri of Indonesia.

It was a double treat for the fans as the men's second seed, P Kashyap, too breezed into the final, brushing aside third seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 21-18, 23-21.

It was indeed a huge morale-booster for former national champion Sindhu, who had lost her crown at the senior Nationals in Srinagar in October. The world No 24 wrapped up the tie in 39 minutes.

Sindhu said after the match that she had to miss her elder sister, P Divya's, wedding in Hyderabad on Saturday, but was still happy to have achieved a major milestone in her career.

"Certainly, I will miss my sister's marriage, but, for me, game comes first. If I win the title tomorrow, it will be a wedding gift for her," said a smiling Sindhu.

The lanky shuttler made full use of her impressive height to cover the court with ease and dictate terms in all departments of the game, especially at the net, where she won 13 points.

"It (win) has given me a lot of confidence. I had never been stretched like this before." said Sindhu.
