For another young qualifier, Juhi Dewangan, managing even seven points — including two in the second game — against top shuttler Saina Nehwal was enough to make her happy. Juhi wasn’t expecting to open her account against the World No. 7 but she gave off her best in the 17-minute battle before losing 5-21, 2-21.

Earlier, there were scary moments for Arup Sridhar against Prakash Jolly in a second round match. After winning the first game 21-13, Sridhar trailed by two points in the second game and the lead was 11-6. But a ‘negative hit’ by Jolly allowed him to reorganise and win five points to level scores.
