Ashish Moudgil was leading the pack in the Xtreme motorcycle and quad category at the end of the first day of the Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya in Manali on Wednesday, reports Ashutosh Sharma.

Earlier, the Raid was flagged off from Shimla at 6 a.m. with the number of participants pruned down to 95 cars. Eventually, 31 cars and 15 motorcycles started the race in the Xtreme category, while 49 vehicles made the grade in the Adventure Trial. After furious action on the unmetalled roads of Shimla district, the rally eventually passed through the Jalori pass, at the height of 3,125m, from where it crossed over to the Kullu valley.
There was no untoward accident on the first day expect for Alok Malik’s car in the adventure trial. The vehicle almost went down below Fagu.
On Thursday, the rally will start from Manali, cross the Rohtang and Kunzum La passes and halt at Patseo for the night. The rally is scheduled to culminate at Srinagar.
