More than 20 armed dacoits killed a house guard jawan and looted Rs 2 lakh from two houses at Birpur more under Bathnaha police station of the district on Monday night. Two persons sustained injuries in resisting the loot bid and they were undergoing treatment at the referral hospital, Forbesganj.

Confirming the incident, superintendent of police (SP) S W Lande said the dacoits raided the houses of Rishi Mishra and Pradip Das, both businessmen. The police soon reached the site and had an encounter with the criminals. The police, however, succeeded in arresting one of the criminals while others managed to escape in the darkness. The SP said the gang had been identified.

Police sais the criminals hurled bombs in which Md Tizamuddin, 35, house guard of Mishra was killed. A case had been lodged in this regard, police said.
