Indra Jatra 2020: Masked devotees in Nepal celebrate amid coronavirus pandemic

Masked devotees took to the streets in Nepal to celebrate the festival of Indra Jatra, the biggest religious street festival in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. The locals refer to the festival as Yenya, which translates to celebration inside Kathmandu. The eight-day-long festival consists of Indra Jatra and Kumari Jatra. Indra Jatra is a celebrationg of the king of heaven, Lord Indra, and for Kumari Jatra a chariot procession of the living goddess Kumari is taken around the city. The festival was to begin on August 30 this year, but on account of the rising number of coronavirus cases, it has been cancelled with small processions being taken out in some parts of the city.
