They came to Mumbai from cities like Ujjain and Jamshedpur to realise their dreams, and today, they are stars in their own right. Here’s a look at those who made it and what they miss about their hometowns and their first reaction to Mumbai.Mohammad Nazim From: Malerkotla, PunjabHit show: Saath Nibhana SaathiyaI miss my school friends. I miss my mom a lot too. I also miss the open spaces and lush green farms that my town has. What shocked me was the survival instinct among people here in Mumbai. It was a different experience for me to see some people living on vada pavs and tea.

Asha NegiFrom: Dehradun, UttarakhandHit show: Pavitra RishtaI miss my family the most — being pampered by them and enjoying the delicacies prepared by my mom. I also miss my best friend Chinki. What shocked me was the fact that I thought it would be very tough for me to survive here. But I am glad I was proven wrong. I thought I’d try my luck for a month or two and then return home, but the city accepted me and gave me many opportunities.

Pratyusha BanerjeeFrom: Jamshedpur, JharkhandHit show: Balika VadhuI miss celebrating festivals back home. I also miss being with my friends and family. Plus, the food in my city was something I haven’t found in Mumbai. What shocked me was seeing things like a guy and a girl hugging on the street or girls wearing short dresses at parties. But I’m used to all this now and have adapted to Mumbai’s culture.

Vivan Dsena From: Ujjain, MPHit shows: Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani, MadhubalaI miss my mother. I also miss the food prepared by her. My hometown has the best sweets and namkeen that you might find in the entire world. I also miss my childhood friends and playing in the neighbourhood football ground. What shocked me was the fact that the city never sleeps. The pace of life here is really fast. Cosmopolitan culture is very shocking too. To see people from different cultures working together was new for me.

Shashank Vyas From: Ujjain, MPHit shows: Balika VadhuI miss the food more than anything else; nothing can replicate that taste. I also miss my school friends and family a lot. What shocked me was that, at times, people here are emotionally disconnected from those around them due to the fast pace of their life, their lifestyle and priorities. Everyone is super-busy running around, doing their own thing.
