The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of a letter written by the Unnao rape survivor alleging threat to her life. A bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi will take up the letter on Thursday along with a report from the SC registry on the delay in placing it before the CJI. “The letter has not been placed before me and newspapers flashed that CJI did not act,” Justice Gogoi said. A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast near Mardum in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district on Tuesday morning. He was taken to a medical camp where he succumbed to his injuries. According to police, the IED which was planted by Maoists was hidden beneath a stone. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah in connection in a money laundering case related to alleged financial irregularities in the state’s cricket association. They said Abdullah appeared before the central agency at its Chandigarh office and his statement was being recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The CBI has booked BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others under murder charges in the accident case of the Unnao rape case survivor. According to normal procedure, the CBI has taken over investigation in the accident case from Uttar Pradesh, re-registering its FIR. The agency has also alerted its officials, who may visit the accident site and take details from police officials of Gurubakshganj Police Station in Rae Bareli where the accident took place. The Goa government wants visitors to the coastal state to be able to return with more than just the two bottles of liquor that are currently permitted. Chief minister Pramod Sawant said, while speaking in the Goa assembly, that the government hopes to cash in on allowing tourists to return with more liquor, something, he said, they were doing anyway, albeit illegally.
