A 6.3 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks in western Afghanistan have resulted in numerous casualties, with hundreds confirmed dead and at least 2,000 individuals injured.  (AP)

In a statement late on Sunday, the U.N. Humanitarian Office put the death toll from the quakes at 1,023, with an additional 1,663 people injured, and more than 500 missing.   (AP)

Since 1920, seven other earthquakes of magnitude 6 or larger have occurred within 250 km of the Oct. 7 earthquake, all within Iran, according to the USGS.   (AP)
