The festival of Durga Puja will be observed from October 1 this year and will go on till October 5. It starts with Mahalaya (September 25) with the ritual of 'pran pratistha' which is done by painting the eyes on the idol goddess Durga. Sasthi, Saptami, Ashtami are the other auspicious days with their own significance and rituals. The celebrations culminate on Vijaya Dashami day when the idols are immersed in rivers. After a two-year hiatus due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, the City of Joy Kolkata is finally happy to host one of the country's biggest festivals once again with much favour and enthusiasm.(AFP) expand-icon View Photos in a new improved layout
