The month of Sawan is famous for Kanwar Yatra, an annual pilgrimage for Lord Shiva's devotees. The Kanwariyas visit places like Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch the holy water of River Ganga and then worship the God with the same water. (ANI)

"Kankhal is the in-laws of Daksha Prajapati Mahadev and is the first temple of Lord Shiva in the world. Lord Shiva had promised that he would reside here for one month of Sawan and resides only in Daksha Prajapati for the month of Sawan," a devotee was quoted by saying news agency ANI. (ANI)

"The Ganges had descended from the hair of Lord Shiva in Sawan, therefore, in the month of Sawan, Lord Shiva is worshipped with Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, brown sugarcane juice and hemp datura. In the month of Sawan, all the wishes are fulfilled because Lord Shiva resides here in the month of Sawan," said another devotee. (ANI)
