On his 71st birth anniversary, we look at Freddie Mercury's photos from Panchgani, India as a young boy. He was the lead vocalist of the popular British rock band, 'Queen.' His songs, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Are The Champions’ and ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ achieved cult status in the world of music internationally.

Freddie Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara, was of Parsi descent and grew up in India before his family moved to England. He was the lead vocalist of the rock band ‘Queen’, famous for singing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Are The Champions’ and ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ among other hits. At 12, Farrokh Bulsara formed the school band, ‘The Hectics’ and also came to be known as Freddie. Here seen on the piano during one of ‘The Hectics’ concerts. The whole town used to be packed in the school hall to hear this popular school band. (Kind permission of Mr and Mrs Bulsara)
