2016 gold robbery from SRPF doctor lands duo in police custody

Two men were arrested by the crime branch of the Pune police for stealing gold ornaments from a man in 2016. The man they stole from is a doctor working for the state reserve police force (SRPF) in Daund.
The complaint in the matter was filed by the doctor, Santosh Prabhusingh Walsonge in 2016, after he was robbed while on his way to Shirur."He was heading towards Shirur from the bus stand, when the two approached him asking if they could drop him. As soon as he was in the car, they threatened to kill him and stole ornaments and documents from him," said Sameer Sheikh, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), crime.
The two were identified as Sachin Vishnu Khamkar, 32, a resident of Hudco in Ahmednagar and Vijaykumar Bansi Rodge, 40, a resident of Pawar Mala in Shirur. Khamkar was driving the car when the incident took place and Rodge was present in the car. While Khamkar drives a car commercially, Rodge is a crane operator. Khamkar is a bachelor of art (BA) graduate while Rodge has studied up to Class 12. They were produced in a local court on Wednesday.
The two had stolen three gold finger rings of 30.5 grammes collectively and a gold chain weighing 18.5 grammes. Together the worth is ₹1,42,100. The gold and a Maruti Alto car worth ₹1,60,000 was recovered from the two.
"One of them had used the gold as a guarantee against which he had acquired a gold loan from a Shirur-based bank. He had acquired a loan for ₹1,28,000 and claims to have started a shop which was shut soon after its opening," said ACP Sheikh.
The two were arrested in a case registered under Sections 392 (robbery), 504 (insult with an intention of provoking breach of peace) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) registered at the Shivajinagar police station in 2016.
