PUNE A 27-year-old Marathi actor from Pune was booked for sexual harassment and stalking of a female colleague. Identified as Subhash Datta Yadav, the actor allegedly harassed the 23-year-old complainant at the Wanowrie police station itself. The complainant was at the police station after she was called in for questioning in a case against her filed by Yadav, who was also present at the time.

“They knew each other and he kept trying to woo her for the past two years. When she blocked his number and his social media profiles, he started calling her parents and siblings to convince her to speak with him,” said police sub inspector Ravindra Bagul of Wanowrie police station.

During a release of his recent film, a video of him dancing outside a theatre went viral. He had approached the cyber crime cell and submitted the complainant’s mobile number saying she was spreading the video. He tried to mislead the cyber crime cell officials into believing that he did not know it was her (complainant) number, according to the police. He also met with Pune police commissioner K Venkatesham and was advised to approach the local police.

When the female actor came to Wanowrie police station, she narrated her two-year- long harassment.

“We told him to behave like a gentleman. When the complainant went to the washroom, he followed her there and tried to block her way. So a case was filed against him. He was arrested on Saturday and bailed this (Sunday) morning as it is a bailable offence,” said PSI Bagul.

This is the second time that the actress has approached the Pune police to complain against the actor.

“Last year, when he started troubling her family members, she tried to talk to him. They met near Chatuhshrungi temple and she tried to reason with him, but he started threatening her. Her driver called the police and he promised to stay away and did so for a few months,” PSI Bagul added.

Yadav has been booked under Sections 354(a) (sexual harassment), 354(d) (stalking) and 341 (wrongful restrain) of Indian Penal Code at Wanowrie police station.
