Anti-encroachment drive against 43 sheds, 6 stalls in Pune
Drive was conducted against the hawkers that encroached 10,000 square feet of government land, says official
The anti-encroachment department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a drive in localities between Deccan and Agriculture college areas and Camp on Saturday. The civic body team also arrived with a car full of police personnel, a van and three trucks at 5:30 pm in Camp area and removed the illegal kiosks and carts and dumped it in the trucks and left the place.
According to Madhav Jagtap, head PMC anti-encroachment department, the drive was conducted against the hawkers that encroached 10,000 square feet of government land.
According to a statement issued by Jagtap, between Sambhaji Maharaj statue in Deccan and Agriculture College gate near Savitribai Phule Pune University, 43 temporary and permanent sheds and six illegal kiosks were razed.
The roadside ice cream and tea stalls were among the many handcarts and kiosks which were loaded on trucks and taken by the Bhawani peth division of the anti-encroachment department. The owners and people working at these stalls were also asked to visit the Bhawani peth division office.
Meanwhile, in a similar drive, as the PMC trucks approached, the hawkers started vacating their stalls that were set up on the one way street separating the SGS Mall from Nehru Memorial Hall. A group of police officials also accompanied the civic officials and helped them evacuate the unauthorised stalls.
