Businessman kidnapped from Balewadi, eyewitness helps rescue ops; six arrested

According to police sub-inspector BV Dodmise, the investigation officer, the accused kidnapped the victim over a monetary issue

Eight men have been booked and six of them were arrested on Friday by the Chatuhshrungi police for kidnapping a businessman from outside his residential society in Balewadi-Baner on Thursday night. The entire kidnapping episode was witnessed by a bystander who informed the police and helped them rescue the bussinesman.

According to police sub-inspector (PSI) BV Dodmise, the investigation officer, the accused kidnapped the victim over a monetary issue. “They forcibly put the victim inside a Swift car, but it was spotted by an eyewitness who informed the police. Accordingly, a nakabandi (bloackade) operation was carried out and the car was apprehended in the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station area. They nabbed the accused and handed them over to us,” he said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Suraj Sandeep Sanas (20), a resident of Velha; Uttam Rajaram Chorge (21), a resident of Velha; Rohit Pandharinath Chorge(19), a resident of Katraj; Santaji Tanaji Bhosale (21); Akshay Tukaram Dharpale (19) and Mukesh Rajaram Asawale (22), all residents of Wadgaon Sheri.

They have been arrested under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 142 (being member of unlawful assembly), Section 143
(member of an unlawful assembly) Section 147(guilty of rioting), Section 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
