Truck rams into SUV along Ahmednagar-Solapur highway
Based on the 15-year-old Ramesh Katore ‘s statement, a case is being registered in the matter at Karjat police station, under Ahmednagar city police jurisdiction.
A truck rammed into a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along Ahmednagar-Solapur highway on Sunday morning, killing five.
The deceased were identified as Ramesh Bhausaheb Latore, 48; Dhrupada Bhausaheb Katore, 70; Babasaheb Lakshman Malode, 48; Dagdu Ananda Bhange, 50 and Hanumanta Ambadas Duche, 29, according to the police. While four of the deceased were natives of Kharwandi in Nevasa area of Ahmednagar and currently living in Jamkhed, Duche was the driver of the ill-fated Mahindra Scorpio SUV . The accident happened around 5.30 am in Karjat along the Ahmednagar-Solapur highway.
Satyam Ramesh Katore, 15, also a resident of Jamkhed, who was sitting in the backseat in the SUV, sustained injuries in the accident. The driver of the truck also survived the accident.
"Bhange and Drupada Katore were in Pandharpur and fell ill. The others had gone to Pandharpur to bring them back. They hired a car to pick the two up. On their way back, the truck hit them from behind," said Lokhande, assistant sub inspector (ASI) and station house officer, Karjat police station.
Based on the 15-year-old Ramesh Katore ‘s statement, a case is being registered in the matter at Karjat police station, under Ahmednagar city police jurisdiction. Ramesh Katore did not sustain any major injuries, according to the police. The deceased were sent to a local hospital for post mortem.
A case has been registered against the truck driver under Section 304(a) (causing death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving on a public way) along with other sections of Indian Penal Code and relevant Sections of the Motor Vehicle Act was registered at Karjat police station. Suresh Mane , assistant police inspector (API) is investigating the case.
