Landge was at the Chapekar chowk area when four men arrived on two motorbikes and attacked him. They hit him on his legs and back with sickles and rods. The four, then, hit his head with cement blocks, severely injuring him.
Landge was rushed to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) in Pimpri. However, he breathed his last at 2:45am on Wednesday. The deceased man's uncle, Prashant Veer, 44, is the complainant in the case.
“One of complainant’s employees was with Akash when the incident happened. The worker ran to his house and narrated the incident to Veer. The complainant rushed to the spot and took him to YCMH,” said police sub-inspector (PSI) RD Sodanwar of the Chinchwad police station, who is investigating the case.
The incident happened around 11:15pm on Tuesday at a distance of 500 metres from the Chinchwad police station.
Two of the four men were identified as Ranjit Bapu Chavan, 27, a resident of Vetalnagar slum in Chinchwad; Swapnil alias Baba More, 23, a resident of Bhoir chawl in Chinchwadgaon. The other two include Dhokane and a man identified as Sonya Varade. Chavan has a history of eight cases in Pune and was externed from the city in the past. More has two cases against him and has been subject to preventive action under Section 110(e) and (g) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the past.
The police did not immediately find a history of charges against the other two in the city. Landge, who was a vegetable vendor, also has a case of dacoity registered against him in 2017.
“In September 2017, Landge was booked in a case of vandalism of vehicles and stealing. He was in the area to look for a person from the other gang. Before that, More was beaten-up by a few people. It is a long-standing feud between these people,” said PSI Sodanwar.
