There has been a marginal increase in the overall pass percentage and also in the percentage achieved by students in various subjects. However, marks obtained in the languages have brought down the scores and overall grades.

A majority of students who appeared for secondary school certificate(SSC) exams came out with flying colours in other subjects but their marks in languages were not on par with the other subjects, thus bringing down the overall scores.

Teresa David, principal of Laxman Rao Apte Prashala said, “ It is true that lesser marks in language papers like Hindi and Marathi impact the overall score. While students focus on other subjects, they often trivialise Marathi and Hindi. They take languages for granted. While huge amount of money is spent on tuitions for other subjects, languages are ignored. Also, parents push their children more towards English language. All these factors have a negative impact on the overall marks of the student.”
